Wayne Rooney was in Switzerland today to appeal against his three match ban, which would see him miss the whole of the group phase of Euro 2012. Thankfully for England fans, Rooney was successful in his appeal but only managed to get one match knocked off, meaning he will still face a two match ban at Euro 2012.

This means that Wayne Rooney will miss the first two games of Euro 2012 for England, which will see them face France and Sweden without their star striker. However, Rooney will now be able to return to the England starting line up for the third match of Group D, which sees England face joint hosts Ukraine. Whether or not he will actually start that match will depend on the performances of his replacement in the first two matches.
It was unclear whether or not Fabio Capello would include Wayne Rooney in his Euro 2012 squad, following his three match ban for his sending off against Montenegro in October, but now that it has been reduced, it is almost certain that he will be included. It is bad news for those who were hoping to replace Wayne Rooney in the squad but is certainly good news for England as a whole.
