Following the very dismal showing from the England national team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, there has been a lot of talk about the future of striker Wayne Rooney and what he can still offer the England team on the big scene. Wayne was not a standout player at the World Cup when the country really needed him to raise his game.
David Beckham is the most capped outfield player

With that said though, England managed just two goals in their three games during the World Cup. One of those goals was created by Wayne Rooney, while the other was scored by the Manchester United striker. Meanwhile, Rooney did not start in the final group game against Costa Rica and the team failed to score.

There are a lot of people who have called for Wayne Rooney to get dropped from the England team but we have no doubt that the striker will go on to break records for his country. We expect that Wayne Rooney will break the Most Caps record for England, as well as going on to break the Most Goals record for his country.
Bobby Charlton has the most England goals
Bobby Charlton has the most England goals

So far in his England career Wayne Rooney has made 94 caps, which is 21 behind the most by an outfield player, which is David Beckham with 115, and 31 behind Peter Shilton with 125. Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has 40 goals for England, which is only 9 behind Bobby Charlton's record of 49.

At the age of 28 Wayne Rooney still has at least another European Championship left in him, as well as another World Cup, both of which will see him play in the majority of the qualifying matches. If Wayne Rooney does not become the most capped England player, as well as becoming the country's top scorer, we will be very surprised.
