It has been years now since it was announced that a World of Warcraft movie was going to be made but we have yet to see any real progress. Throughout the year we are fed tips of what is happening with the movie but it appears that World of Warcraft the movie is on hold for the time being.
First it was reported that Spiderman
director Sam Raimi
was set to direct the movie but he pulled out to go and work on another project. It was then claimed that the studio wanted James Cameron to direct
it but he is currently busy with his Avatar
There have also been a number of stars linked to the World of Warcraft
movie, including Mark Hildenbrandt
, who is set to play Varian Wrynn, Mila Kunis
was believed to be in line to play Valeera Sanguinar
and Liam Neeson
was also set to have a small part
in the movie.
Then there is Thomas Tull
, who is the executive producer on the Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises
and is believed to be in line for the same role on World of Warcraft the movie
. Yet there has still been no real progress made on the movie since Sam Raimi
scrapped Gary Whitta
So, what is happening with the World of Warcraft movie? Well rumour has it that Sam Raimi is still set to direct the movie. Once he has finished work on Oz: The Great and the Powerful, he will talk with the studio about potential writers to work on the screenplay.
Once the screenplay has been written, which Sam will be slightly involved in, the movie can then move forward. There are already a number of locations that have been chosen for shooting the movie, so, with a bit of luck, World of Warcraft the movie could finally get moving about this time next year. With that said, do not expect the World of Warcraft movie to hit the big screen before 2015.
