For those of you who do not already know, we are going to see the beautiful actress Emma Stone taking on the role of Billy Jean King, while Steve Carell takes on the role of Bobby Riggs, in the new movie Battle of the Sexes. However, it is going to be interesting to see exactly what route this movie decides to take on the events that took place.
The comedy biography will be based on that infamous tennis match from way back in 1973, when an ageing Bobby Riggs, 53 at the time, decided to take on the top female tennis player Billy Jean King, in a tennis match which was dubbed Battle of the Sexes. The winner was to take home $100k but it was claimed that there was even more at stake for Bobby.
When Billy Jean King went on to dominate and destroy Bobby Riggs, there were question marks over his performance, with some people claiming that, since he was the overwhelming favourite, Bobby decided to place bets on himself to lose thus making more money and even managing to pay off the debts that he supposedly owed to the mob.
Meanwhile though, there are some people who were close to Bobby Riggs, who claim that this is complete nonsense and that the tennis star was never in any debt to the mob at all. It will be interesting then, to see whether the new movie Battle of the Sexes addresses these conflicting claims, or if they just ignore it all together.
Battle of the Sexes is expected to get underway soon, with Emma Stone dying her hair for the role. There is no official release date for the movie yet but we will keep you posted.
