So, by now we are pretty sure that you have all heard the bad news about Edgar Wright parting ways with Marvel and leaving the Ant-Man project that he has been working on for the past eight years. Edgar put a lot of time and effort into making an Ant-Man film that he truly believed in but, due to how long it has taken for the project to get off the ground, a few things have changed.
Edgar Wright first started working on his Ant-Man idea way back in 2006, before the first Iron Man movie had even been released. This was a time when the Marvel Cinematic Universe was still just an idea and had not yet begun to come together. Unfortunately for Edgar Wright, it is now 2014, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is enormous and his Ant-Man movie would need to fit in with that.
A few months back, Marvel gave Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish some notes about what they needed from the Ant-Man movie. Joe and Edgar took these notes on board, went away and tried to give Marvel what they wanted, without compromising their own vision. Marvel were still unhappy so handed the script to someone else to be amended. That script was given back to Wright and Cornish, who were less than pleased with the changes, so decided that it was best to walk away.
There are a lot of fans and critics in a bit of a panic that this could mean the end of the long-awaited Ant-Man movie but we do not think that is the case. The script is there, a cast has all signed up and all they are missing now is a director. The Ant-Man movie may take a little while longer to hit us now but we are still expecting Marvel to push ahead with it. Watch this space!
Who would you like to see as the new Ant-Man director?
