When Disney announced that they had bought the rights to LucasFilm and were bringing us a brand new Star Wars trilogy, there was a lot of talk about who would be cast in the new Star Wars: Episode VII movie. As well as plenty of rumours about new actors being cast, there was also a lot of talk about which original stars would make their return to the franchise.
The official cast for Star Wars: Episode VII has now been revealed and we now know exactly which new actors will join the Star Wars franchise, as well as which original actors will return. However, there is one actor from the original Star Wars movies who was asked to reprise his role for Star Wars: Episode VII but decided to refuse the offer.
Actor Denis Lawson played the role of X-Wing fighter pilot Wedge Antilles in the original Star Wars trilogy and he has revealed how he rejected the chance to return to the role for Star Wars: Episode VII. Lawson explained, "I’m not going to do that. They asked me but it just would have bored me." We never thought there would be anyone to turn down a role in this movie.
While Denis Lawson turned down the chance to return to the Star Wars franchise, there will be the return of other original stars including Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca and Kenny Baker as R2-D2. Star Wars: Episode VII will open on December 18, 2015 in both the US and the UK.
