There has been a lot of talk surrounding the self proclaimed “greatest boxer ever” following his controversial victory over Victor Ortiz last weekend. The biggest talking point is not even about the fight itself. It is, as always, about Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao and whether it will happen or not.
At the moment the fight seems highly unlikely, as Floyd insists that Manny has nothing to offer him. Mayweather is also insistent on Pacquiao taking extra stringent drug tests. However, Manny would rather pursue other avenues than go through the drug tests, just because Floyd Mayweather says he should.
So that fight is currently looking very unlikely. So the question, who will Floyd Mayweather fight next? is still lingering. One boxer who has thrown his hat into the ring is British boxer Amir Khan. Amir is currently boxing at a weight lower than Mayweather, so will have to step up to fight the champ.
However, Khan would also need to prove that he can mix it with the best at welterweight, who are not even in Mayweather’s league, before he gets a shot at Floyd. So a fight between Mayweather and Khan could be a good 12 months away and that is only if Amir proves himself at the weight above.
The most likely opponent to be next to face Floyd Mayweather, in our opinion, is the winner of the Miguel Cotto Vs. Antonio Margarito fight. Although the fight is taking place at light middleweight, both fighters have spent the time in their careers at welterweight. The fight takes place on December 3.
A fight against Floyd Mayweather could be arranged for early next year and both fighters would be willing to step back down to welterweight for the big pay day, and the chance to prove they have what it takes against the best boxer around. So the answer to the question, who will Floyd Mayweather fight next? Is most likely Cotto or Margarito.
