Wigan Athletic are expecting huge interest in their Scottish winger Shaun Maloney, according to several reports. The Scot has been a integral part of Roberto Martinez's squad who fought to avoid relegation. However, the team has been relegated after collecting only 36 points from 38 Premier League matches this season.
"Shaun Maloney should be playing for teams fighting for titles," Martinez told reporters. "He's got the quality of any player playing in that position.
"Shaun could have been born in any other country in terms of his technical ability. I would never be surprised if a club with more tradition and bigger power looked at him."
"Shaun can play in any team. He has the quality of any other top player in that position."
"He can find space and finds it so natural to turn."
"I wouldn’t be surprised if a club with more tradition and bigger power looks at him but that’s a compliment to us."
"But I don’t want to see Shaun leave because he’s so instrumental to what we do."
"He is obsessed with keeping himself fully fit – since day one he has been an example at our football club."
Wigan have yet to receive a formal offer for their winger but they are pretty confident the player will leave in the summer transfer window.
