When the ‘Man of Steel’ was released yesterday, audiences got their first extended look at Zack Snyder and Chris Nolan’s version of Superman. And the response? Overwhelmingly positive.
Critics, fanboys, and the general web audience found the trailer to be beautiful and emotional, with a lot of stunning visual effects and a Superman that seems to be a three dimensional character (something that wasn’t the case with the last, disastrous attempt at a Superman movie, 2006’s ‘Superman Returns’). Of course, we can also see Chris Nolan’s handprint all over this movie, with many comparing this re-imagining of an iconic character similar to what Nolan did with the Batman series.
Recently, Movieline asked Chris Nolan whether there would be cross-over with Batman and Superman before Warner Brother’s planned Justice League film – they asked Nolan if Batman (played by Joseph Gordon Levitt) would appear in the new Man of Steel film. Nolan’s response was, “I can’t talk about that. You know that.”
This response is different to most of Nolan’s comments on the matter, which are usually a firm ‘No.’ Whenever he’s asked about continuing the Batman series in any form, he always replies with negatively, but in this scenario, he just mentions that he’s not allowed to talk about it. Could this mean that a cameo is not completely out of the question? After all, we know that WB is prepping the Justice League movie for release in 2015, and would of course want to start introducing these characters before shooting that movie. Knowing that Christian Bale will not return as the caped crusader, they will want to introduce Batman in some other form, which could easily be in ‘Man of Steel’. Either way, we’ll find out on July 14th, 2013, when ‘Man of Steel’ releases in theaters worldwide.
