Whenever there is news of a movie being made, it does not take too long for the rumour mill to begin churning, with plenty of rumours flying out on an almost daily basis. Usually these rumours are about which stars will appear in the movies in which roles. When it comes to movie sequels, the rumours are about which actors will return and which ones will leave.
So, when it was announced that Jon Chu was returning to direct the movie sequel G.I. Joe 3, it was no surprise when the rumours about whether or not Channing Tatum would return began doing the rounds. While a lot of recent talk has suggested that Channing will be back for G.I. Joe 3, director Jon Chu has claimed that they are still working on it.
Chu was speaking with Uinterview, telling them, "I’ve been trying to play it coy on this. All of the sudden, there are these headlines saying Channing Tatum’s coming back in G.I. Joe. The reality is we’re working on it now. All possibilities are open, but I’m not saying either way for any of the characters, actually."
The first movie in the franchise was titled G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and opened in 2009 grossing $301m worldwide. Then came the sequel G.I Joe: Retaliation, which opened in 2013 and made $372m worldwide. While there is no official word on who will return for G.I. Joe 3 or when the movie will begin shooting, the one thing we do know is that Evan Daugherty has been brought in to pen the screenplay.
