When it was first announced that Emma Stone would be playing Gwen Stacy in the ‘Amazing Spiderman’, fans assumed that the creative time would likely be heading towards Gwen Stacy’s most famous storyline in the comics – the ‘Death of Gwen Stacy’ story.

Shailene Woodley, who was previously rumored to be the frontrunner to play Mary Jane Watson in the Amazing Spiderman sequels, has now been confirmed as the character according to the Hollywood Reporter. They also report that Woodley is closing a deal to play the lead role of Tris in ‘Divergent’, which many are predicting to become the next ‘Hunger Games’ [and Hunger Games star Alexander Ludwig is also in contention to play the male lead opposite Woodley].
Originally, the two roles were said to clash and there could have been a scheduling conflict but reports are saying that Woodley’s role in the second Spiderman would be minimal at best, and would later expand in the third film [likely after Stone’s Gwen Stacy dies at the end of the second one]. All this news pretty much confirms what fans were expecting since the movies started filming: the franchise is indeed going towards the iconic moment from the comics of Gwen Stacy’s death.
