It is fair to say that American tennis superstar Serena Williams has dominated the female tennis scene for many, many years now, but there was once a time when there was another young lady on the tour, who looked like she could be the dominant force on the female tennis scene. Unfortunately, things did not quite turn out that way, but she has now shown that she is back with a bang.
Back in the late 1990s, the very talented Croatian star Mirjana Lucic-Baroni burst onto the tennis scene, just a young teenager with a big dream, but with bags of talent and potential that many thought would see her become one of the most successful female players ever. Mirjana was one of the most promising young stars ever and she broke a number of younger ever records, before things took a turn for the worst.
Unfortunately for Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, some very big personal problems began to take over her life and she slipped off of the women's main tour, with many thinking that it would be the last of her chances to ever win a Grand Slam. However, Mirjana has come back with a bang, enjoying a fantastic run to the Australian Open semi-finals, before being beaten by Serena Williams.
The performances from Mirjana Lucic-Baroni has got people talking, with many wondering with it was just a rare run of good form, or if she has what it takes to finally get her hands on a singles Grand Slam title. At the age of 35, things are certainly against Mirjana but, if she was to find some of that form and talent from those early days, then she just might be in with a shot.
