Ever since the success of the 1996 movie Independence Day there has been a lot of talk about a possible sequel being, with a number of different rumours about which stars will return and who will be missing. It now looks like Independence Day 2 is a definite go-ahead but, much to the disappointment of the fans of the original film, Will Smith will not be back for the movie.
That means that Will Smith is now free to take on other projects and it looks like he may well have found the next film for him to star in. There have been a number of reports that Will Smith is in talks to star in the new science fiction movie Brilliance, which is based on the hit Marcus Sakley novel of the same name and has been adapted for the big screen by David Koepp.
While there is not a great deal known about the film Brilliance, we can take it from the novel that the movie will centre around "a world where some people - 'brilliants' - are born with heightened cognitive abilities. Smith is lined up to play one of said people, whose brain power will apparently make him rather good at tracking down terrorists."
It has also been reported that Brilliance will be directed by Julius Onah (God Particle) and that, if this movie is a success, then there are already plans to make the film into a trilogy. We are assuming that, once Will Smith signs on things will begin to move a bit quicker with production expected to start later in the year and a possible 2015 release date expected.
