There have been some fantastic golf players over the years and it was long thought that Jack Nicklaus would be the greatest player the game has ever seen forever and that nobody would ever come close to him. However, that all changed when a young American by the name of Tiger Woods burst onto the scene and went many years being virtually unstoppable, with people comparing him to the great Jack Nicklaus.
Tiger Woods was so good that many expected him to go on to break the record of 18 major wins that Jack Nicklaus set and, for a while it did look like Tiger was going to pass that mark and go on to set a new "unbreakable" record. There is no denying that Tiger Woods is arguably the greatest player that the game has ever seen but, following some personal struggles off the course, his form has dropped dramatically.
Tiger Woods got to 14 major wins with his victory at the 2008 US Open but has not managed to win another major for the past seven years, with many suggesting that he is never going to win another major again. Tiger has failed to even make the cut at the last three majors and this once invincible golf star has now dropped all the way down to 286 in the world rankings.
There have been some people who have suggested that it may well be time for Tiger Woods to call it a day and retire from the sport but, at the age of 39 and with a new golf swing, it could just be a matter of time before we see Tiger Woods competing in tournaments again. It is fair to say that we will never see the return of the great player he once was but we could see him win another major in the future.
Tiger Woods is currently in action at the Wyndham Championships, where he shot a first round 64, his lowest round for two years, showing that he is still capable of hitting a low scoring round.
