There are a lot of new and exciting films that hit Hollywood every year but it is fair to say that, over the course of the past few years, the movie industry has started to get dominated by superhero movies, with Marvel leading the way. While Marvel have had a lot of impressive solo movies along the way, it is fair to say that the lead character for the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been Iron Man.
We have had three Iron Man movies to date which have gone on to gross a combined total of around $2.43bn worldwide. With that it mind, there is no doubt that Marvel are going to keep this money-making franchise alive and will definitely make another Iron Man movie in the future. However, the question that is still unanswered, is whether actor Robert Downey Jr. will return for Iron Man 4 or if a new star will be cast.
Well it seems that this has still not been settled and Robert Downey Jr. himself has been talking about the possibility of appearing in yet another Iron Man movie, admitting that he has yet to be spoken to about it. Robert says that he will need a proposal from the relevant people before he can decide whether he will continue on as Iron Man or not.
Downey Jr. told Entertainment Weekly, "It’s down to Kevin Feige and Ike Perlmutter and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that’s on us to agree or disagree. When things are going great, there’s a lot of agreement."
With that said though, it does seem like Robert Downey Jr. is still interested in staying on as Iron Man, admitting that he still feels comfortable playing the character and sees no reason to give it up. However, Robert also says that when you get too comfortable, that is when the unexpected can happen.
Downey Jr. added, "It’s that thing of: why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed? Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out."
Who would you like to see replacing Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man?
