Williams team boss Frank Williams has taken a bold step, in signing up 29 year old Susie Wolff to become the team’s new test driver. Susie’s duties at the Formula 1 team will include aerodynamic testing, simulator work and track tests and she will also attend a number of races with Williams.

Williams explained, Susie is a talented racing driver who competes in one of the world's most fiercely-contested racing series [DTM]. Susie will also attend a number of races with us.”
Wolff added, “Formula 1 is the ultimate challenge for any racing driver and it offers me the chance both to apply and to improve the skills I have. I hope also to demonstrate that women can play a role at the highest levels of motorsport.”

While many will be praising the move by Williams to appoint a female Formula 1 test driver, there will be those who are not so pleased about the move. Susie Wolff is married to Toto Wolff, a director of Williams and some claim that the decision to sign Susie is down to Toto’s involvement with the team.
Do you think Williams are right to sign a female Formula 1 test driver?
