Winona Ryder rolls her eyes when asked about Beetlejuice sequel

It is being reported that Tim Burton is working on a sequel for ‘Beetlejuice’, with Seth Grahame-Smith reportedly writing the screenplay.  It has also been reported that Michael Keaton would be returning for the sequel, but reports haven’t come out recently about the stage that the project is in.

During a press junket for ‘Frankenweenie’, both Burton and Winona Ryder fielded questions about the Beetlejuice sequel.  When Ryder was asked about it, she replied, ““Yeah, that would be…great, “ along with a heavy sigh and rolling of her eyes.

When Burton was asked about it, he replied, “ “Somebody’s writing a version, but I’m sort of…not making any preconceived ideas about it, and…not over-thinking something that I haven’t seen, so I’m just kind of keeping an open mind about it and seeing what comes.”

Burton generally has a good record with these dark fantasy tales, having established himself with Edward Scissorhands and becoming a global box office phenomenon with Alice in Wonderland.  However, after a weak showing at the box office and mediocre reviews for the past summer’s ‘Dark Shadows’, it may bring to question whether bringing back a sequel to a beloved classic is the right way to go.
