Wojciech Szczesny has had a colourful career at Arsenal which has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous with calamitous errors and match-winning performances all rolled into one. However, the one thing that has stayed consistent in his career is that he has been the Arsenal one. But does he have the spot for definite?
The early indications are that he has, largely due to a lack of competition. Lucaz Fabianski has been an able understudy but has never really laid a claim to be number one and departed goalkeepers such as Vito Mannone and Manuel Almunia have never really changed the Pole.
However, if the Pole wants to continue in his role, then he will have to improve. Recently, he has not been at his best as show by this weekend's defeat to Manchester City, where he shipped 6 goals. Admittedly City have a wealth of attacking options and boast a world-class forward line but the keeper was at fault for at least 2 of the goals.
On the other hand, Arsenal have one of the best defensive records in the country and a lot of this is down to Wojciech Szczesny who really has excelled and been the difference in some closely contested games. If the Pole carries on showing this kind of excellence, then the Arsenal number one spot looks to be his for a long time yet as he is only 23.
