Michael Eavis, the boss of the Glastonbury Festival, has revealed that he was angry when he discovered that someone on his team had invited The Wombles to play this year’s festival. Eavis admitted that allowing the novelty group to play the Avalon Stage on Sunday June 26, was a massive mistake.
Eavis stated, "I've got about 25 stages and managers and bookers for each of the stages. I can't control every single one of them but I do get cross about that kind of thing." The Wombles became huge in the 70s after release a number of singles off the back of a TV series, resulting in four top ten hits.
The Wombles were put together by Mike Batt who explained his disappointment at the comments made by Michael Eavis. "It isn't very nice to think that you have been booked at a festival where you aren't welcome, but we hope Mr Eavis will pop along to the Avalon Stage on Sunday to check out the reaction for himself.” I for one am excited to hear their live performance of the classic hit, Remember You’re a Womble.
