This weekend saw the release of three fairly impressive movies, in Zero Dark Thirty, A Haunted House and Gangster Squad and all three movies had a good weekend at the box office. However, it was Zero Dark Thirty which was the top dog this weekend.

Zero Dark Thirty has been surrounded by a lot of controversy due to its subject matter and has been heavily criticised by those in the know. However, if anything, their public criticism of the film only helped to boost its profile and get more people interested in seeing what all the fuss was about.
This has certainly made the movie successful as it topped the US box office this weekend with $24m, just edging out A Haunted House, which came in second with $18.8m. Meanwhile, Gangster Squad only managed to take third place, with $16.7m this weekend.

It is fair to say that these three movies were expected to be at the top of the US box office this weekend, although many thought Gangster Squad would outdo A Haunted House. The rest of the top five was made up of Django Unchained at number 4 with $11.1m and Les Misérables in 5th with $10.1m.
