Amir Khan and his team have decided to withdraw their appeal to the IBF regarding his defeat to Lamont Peterson in December. It seems unclear as to why Team Khan and Golden Boy Promotions have decided to withdraw the appeal, considering how much of a fuss they have made since the defeat last month. The IBF have claimed that the withdrawal came without explanation as to why but Golden Boy Promotions have since released a statement.
They claim that only partial representation of the fight officials who were involved will be present at the official hearing, so have decided to withdraw their appeal. Meanwhile, Lamont Peterson has issued his own appeal to the WBA regarding their decision to force a rematch. Talks about a rematch are set to take place today and Golden Boy Promotions have offered Lamont Peterson a 50-50 split on all revenues from the fight.
However, it is still unclear whether or not Lamont Peterson will accept the rematch or whether he will relinquish the WBA title. If he does decide to relinquish the WBA title he will still be the holder of the IBF title but if he chooses to accept the rematch he could walk away with both titles. The fact that the IBF has not issued a rematch means that Lamont Peterson will not have to put that title on the line. We will keep you updated throughout the day.
