When it comes to using motion capture technology for a movie, there is no one better at performing than Andy Serkis, who has given us the likes of Gollom in The Lord of the Rings movies, and Caesar in the new Planet of the Apes films. Next up for Andy is the role of Supreme Leader Snoke in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.
We have not exactly heard a great deal about the character Supreme Leader Snoke and we have yet to see what the character is going to look like. Fortunately though, Andy Serkis has been talking about his latest role, and Andy has given us a few teasers of what to expect from the character.
Serkis explained, "Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character, and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful. Obviously he has a huge agenda. He has suffered a lot of damage. As I said, there is a strange vulnerability to him, which belies his true agenda. He’s a new character in this universe. It is very much a newly introduced character. He’s aware of what’s gone on, in the respect that he has been around and is aware of prior events. I think it’d be fair to say that he is aware of the past to a great degree."
As well as talking about what to expect from the character, in terms of what he knows and what he does not know about the past events in the Star Wars Universe, Andy Serkis also went on to explain what to expect from the look of Supreme Leader Snoke. Andy did not want to give too much away but he did give us an idea of what the character will look like.
He added, "The scale of him, for instance, is one reason. He is large. He appears tall. And also just the facial design – you couldn’t have gotten there with prosthetics. It’s too extreme. Without giving too much away at this point, he has a very distinctive, idiosyncratic bone structure and facial structure. You could never have done it [in real life.]"
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens will hit the big screen on December 17 in the UK and December 18 in the US.
