It seems that Arsene Wenger is set to listen to the fans and dip his hand into the transfer kitty to strengthen the squad with two new signings. However, they are not likely to get the Arsenal fans licking their lips with anticipation and could actually have the opposite effect. As if signing Yossi Benayoun wasn’t bad enough, the latest transfer conquests could be considered worse.
The first player it seems that Arsene Wenger is set to sign, is 19 year old German midfielder Thomas Eisfeld. The teenager has been in good form for Borussia Dortmund under 19s this season, with six goals in twelve games but that is the under 19s and is not exactly going to set the Premier League on fire. He could be a player for the future but Arsenal’s problems are now.
The second player is Adrian Mariappa, the centre back who has been having a fairly good season for Watford in the Championship this season. Again, it’s the Championship and a club like Arsenal should be looking to bring in some big name players if they hope to secure a Champions League spot for next season. With just one more day of January left, Arsene Wenger needs to get his priorities right.
