Carrie Underwood is giving back to her home state of Oklahoma by writing a check of $1 million to the Red Cross in aid of those affected by the massive tornado damage earlier this week.
Oklahoma was absolutely devastated by the tornado, which was supposedly 2 miles wide at one point and measured at EF 4 on the Fujita scale. Carrie released a statement saying, "I have watched the devastation in my home state of Oklahoma over the past several days with great sadness. With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornadoes."
Carrie's donation of $1 million was reportedly funded by proceeds from her Blown Away concert tour. However, Carrie Underwood wasn't the only celebrity to give a large sum of money to aid recovery efforts. Kevin Durant, who plays for Oklahoma City Thunder, also donated $1 million.
The chief development officer for the Red Cross praised Carrie and others like her, saying that their contributions will be key to helping Oklahoma recover from the tragedy and destruction left by the tornadoes.
