Over the years we have seen a number of subjects being brought to the big screen and on occasions the same subject can be adapted for the big screen by two different production companies and two different directors. That is exactly what has happened for the legendary character Hercules, who has already hit the big screen with Kellan Lutz as the titular character, while a new Hercules movie is preparing to open with Dwayne Johnson in the lead role.

Dwayne Johnson is Hercules
With the new Hercules movie just a few months away from being released, the cast and crew have been talking about the project, with Dwayne Johnson revealing a few of the possibilities that they had for the film. Dwayne has admitted that Gladiator star Russell Crowe came close to making an appearance in the movie.
Johnson told Collider, "Well, I’m not giving anything away, but there was a moment where — and we just couldn’t make the schedules align — it was going to me and Russell Crowe, and we were going to set something up. But that’s done with… Maybe down the road — but, you know, just to give you an idea of just how exciting and the different ways we can go. There are a lot of different characters that Hercules comes in contact with."

Russell Crowe almost appeared
As well as starring Dwayne Johnson in the titular role, Hercules also boasts an impressive supporting cast including the likes of Irina Shayk, Robert Maillet, Ian McShane, John Hurt, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal and Joseph Fiennes. Hercules is directed by Brett Ratner and will open on July 25 in the US, before then hitting the big screen on August 8 in the UK.
