As is often the case with new television shows, the cast from the pilot episode changes by the time the season one premiere airs. That was certainly the case with the hit HBO fantasy drama Game of Thrones, which saw a few changes from the pilot, before becoming a global success.
Sophie Turner almost lost out to Izzy Meikle-Small
For those of you who cannot remember the pilot episode of Game of Thrones, or those who have not seen it, the role of Catelyn Stark was originally played by Jennifer Ehle. However, the Zero Dark Thirty actress decided to withdraw from the series, leaving Michelle Fairley to take the role.
Sophie Turner has made a name for herself as one of the top British stars of the future, thanks to her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones. Yet Sophie faced some stiff competition for the role from the likes of Izzy Meikle-Small, who pushed her all the way to the final two for the role.
Emilia Clarke has become a household name
The biggest change to the Game of Thrones cast would have to be that of Daenerys Targaryen, who was played in the pilot episode by Tamzin Merchant. Fortunately for Emilia Clarke, Tamzin left after the pilot, allowing Emilia Clarke to take the role and become a household name around the World.
