Despite not being on the initial list of actresses considered to be play the female lead opposite Chris Evans in Captain America: Winter Soldier, Emily VanCamp has been cast in the Marvel film. Deadline reports that Marvel Studios and VanCamp’s agents are currently in the process of negotiations, so nothing is confirmed until they reach an agreement.

The role is rumored to be Sharon Carter, who is the niece of Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell in the first Captain America film that released in 2011. Although the previous shortlists contained almost every actress in Hollywood within the correct age limit, VanCamp’s name was never mentioned in connection to the role.
A lot of people predicted that since the directors were the Russo brothers, the role would go to a comedy veteran, which is one of the reasons Anna Kendrick and Alison Brie were considered to be the top picks. This is especially true considering that the Russo brothers directed most of the Community episodes, and Alison Brie is a staple on the show.

Chris Evans as Captain America
However, it’s not hard to consider why VanCamp got the job – she’s smart, witty, and pretty bad-ass on ‘Revenge’, which are all the qualities that are necessary to play Sharon Carter. She fits the physical description of the character, and has the dramatic and comedic chops to make the character her own.
