There was once a time when all we ever really knew Emma Watson for was her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies, but the British beauty has since gone on to appear in a number of movies, giving us some very impressive performances along the way. While we will forever remember Emma for those early Harry Potter days, she will also now be known for yet another iconic character.

Emma Watson stars in the role of Belle in the upcoming live action adaptation of the classic Disney tale Beauty and the Beast, although it seems that she could well have played a different Disney character before this. Emma has revealed how she was offered the lead role in the 2015 Disney movie Cinderella, but that she decided to turn it down because she did not really feel the character offered enough.
Watson was chatting to Total Film magazine, when she told them, "I didn't know they were going to make Beauty And The Beast at the time I turned down Cinderella. But when they offered me Belle, I just felt the character resonated with me so much more than Cinderella did. She remains curious, compassionate and open-minded. And that's the kind of woman I would want to embody as a role model, given the choice."

As well as starring Emma Watson, the Beauty and the Beast movie also stars Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Dan Stevens, Ian McKellen, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Emma Thompson, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, among others. Beauty and the Beast has been directed by Bill Condon with the movie set to hit the big screen on March 17, 2017 in both the US and the UK.
