Ernie Els, the legendary South African golf great is about to cut back on the number of tournaments he plays and this will result in him winning more tournaments or at the very least be competitive more consistently. He recently informed the media that he is seriously considering making this change which is the equivalent of saying he has made the decision.

He feels that he wants to spend more time with his children as they grow through their teenage years and that is a great decision which will also help him deal with the changes in a person’s body that come with age. During his younger years Ernie was able to travel and would not feel the effects on his body. However, Ernie just as many other professional golfers seems to be accepting the fact that as you get older your body needs more time to recover from travel and competition.
Ernie in 2012 won the British Open and that has been the last major championship he has won. However, when one looks back at his recent play it is apparent that the more time he took between tournaments the better his results. The simple fact is that as you get older it takes your body a longer time to deal with the effects of travel.

Ernie Els takes a swing
Fellow golfers Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker have already cut back on the number of tournaments they play and the result was they have played better on a more consistent basis. Don’t be surprised to see Ernie Els become a more competitive golfer who is challenging for the lead in the tournaments he plays in the 2014 season. The less wear and tear he puts on his big body, they don't call him the "Big Easy" as a misnomer, by participating in fewer tournaments will likely result in more top 5 finishes in the upcoming golf season. The decision to cut back on the tournaments he plays in was a savvy, wise decision by one of the best players in the history of golf.
