It is fair to say that the hit HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones is currently one of the best shows on television right now, with a huge fan base proving what a success the show is. Game of Thrones season three recently premiered and the show is as good as ever.

It was expected that HBO would definitely renew Game of Thrones for a fourth season and it was expected that plans for Game of Thrones season four would already be under way. However, it has now been revealed that Game of Thrones season three will be the last for the series.
According to show insiders, it is felt that they are beginning to spread themselves too thin, by introducing too many new characters and, rather than seeing the show fall below its high standards, show execs felt that it would be better to go out on top and on a high.

Fans of Game of Thrones will no doubt be disappointed with the decision but it is refreshing to see a show getting out while it is still great, rather than overdoing it and sucking the life and soul out of what made it so great. Game of Thrones season three airs on HBO in the US on Sundays and on Sky Atlantic in the UK on Mondays.
