Citizen of Newcastle have been up in arms over the latest reality TV show to hit the screens, Geordie Shore due to its “outdated stereotypes.” Local MP Chi Onwurah said “it is bordering on pornographic. It's exploiting those young people and exploiting our city."
The MTV show is based on the US hit series Jersey Shore and follows 8 friends who are obsessed with drinking, fighting and stripping off. The first episode, which aired on Tuesday, was viewed by 330,000 people making it MTV’s biggest adult audience in three years.
Ms Onwurah continued, "I'm going to be raising questions in Parliament because I think there should be a limit on how much alcohol a broadcaster can pour down the throats of young people to provoke sensational acts. By putting those young people in this situation, it's encouraging them to lose all their dignity. I think it's totally unrepresentative of Newcastle."
