When it was revealed that George Lucas had agreed to sell the rights to Star Wars to Disney, many fans of the franchise were concerned that he would still be heavily involved in the new movies. However, it seems that, while George is happy to help out, he is finally ready to let go of Star Wars.
George's son Jett Lucas told Flicks and the City, "We knew probably a year prior (to the purchase) he had started writing and researching, starting his whole little process. About a year later was when the idea of selling to Disney came up…It’s nice because he’s happiest when he’s writing and doing something with his time.”
He added, "Yeah, as any parent watching their kid going to college would. He’s constantly talking to J.J. [Abrams, director of Episode VII]. Obviously J.J. was handpicked. He [Lucas] is there to guide, whenever, he’ll help where he can. At the same time, he wants to let it go and become its new generation.”
There have been plenty of rumours about the new Star Wars movies, with a whole host of different names being linked to roles in the new Star Wars trilogy. One thing that is known, is that Star Wars: Episode VII is planned for a 2015 release date. We cannot wait.
