It appears that a pilot for a Green Arrow television series is being lined up for The CW, as they look to replace their long running superhero series Smallville, which ended last year. The show, which is based on the DC Comics character is set to be an original story and will not necessarily follow the story from the comic. However, it will still be about Green Arrow and his civilian identy as billionaire Oliver McQueen.
Green Lantern scribes Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim are set to pen the pilot and will also executive produce, along with The Vampire Diaries producer Andrew Kreisberg. Justin Hartley, who played Green Arrow in Smallville from 2006 until 2011 is believed to be interested in the role but it is likely that they will want to completely refresh the character.
It is believed that David Nutter, who directed the pilot episode for Smallville back in 2006, is the top candidate to direct the Green Arrow pilot. The success of the Green Arrow television series could determine whether or not they decide to push forward and make a big screen adaptation of Green Arrow. Watch this space!
