There was once a time when people were either male or female and it was very much frowned up if anyone ever spoke of anything different, due to the fact that people simply did not know any better back then. These days though, we now know so much more about things such as being intersex, so it is surprising that there is still such a stigma surrounding those who are born this way.

Belgian supermodel Hanne Gaby Odiele was born with internal testes, while she was also born without a uterus or ovaries, with the beautiful star having to undergo surgery when she was just 10 years old, to have the testes removed, before then having a vagina reconstruction at the age of 18. Now, Hanne has spoken out about being intersex, stating that she hopes more people will come to accept it for what it is.
Odiele was chatting to USA Today, when she explained, "It’s very important to me in my life right now to break the taboo. At this point, in this day and age, it should be perfectly all right to talk about this. I am proud to be intersex, but very angry that these surgeries are still happening. It’s not that big of a deal being intersex. If they were just honest from the beginning … it became a trauma because of what they did."

It is definitely a brave decision from Hanne Gaby Odiele to come out and talk about being intersex and it will be interesting to see whether it will encourage more people to speak about being born this way.
