Homeland executive producer Alex Gansa has revealed that they decided to add the recent Brody plot twist so early just to turn the show on its head. CIA agent Saul (Mandy Patinkin) finds Brody’s (Damian Lewis) taped confession in episode two and Alex admits that the Homeland writers love keeping the viewers on their toes.

Gansa explained to TV Guide, “It turns the whole series on its head. Does Saul withhold it from [Carrie]? Does he share it with her? You will know the answer at the end of episode three! That's a huge decision to make on his part and it changes the series.”
He added, “It is shocking that it falls into the good guys' hands so early into the process. But it sets off a course of events that feels unexpected, even though the audience was expecting it. One of our little secret weapons is just dramatising these things earlier than you might ordinarily.”

Homeland recently enjoyed huge success at the Emmy’s where they managed to pick up a very impressive six awards, including a Best Actress gong for Claire Danes. Homeland season two is currently airing in the US on Sunday at 10/9c on Showtime and in the UK on Sundays at 9pm on Channel 4.
