When British actor Benedict Cumberbatch first started playing the role of Sherlock Holmes in the hit BBC television series Sherlock back in 2010 he was hardly considered a household name. However, the huge success of this show opened many doors for Benedict, bringing him to the attention of many of Hollywoods bigwigs.
Since first hitting our screen as Sherlock Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch has gone on to star in a number of top movies, catapulting Benedict to Hollywood superstardom, making him a household name around the world. Cumberbatch has appeared in such impressive movies as Star Trek Into Darkness, War Horse, 12 Years a Slave, August: Osage County and The Hobbit trilogy.
While all of this is fantastic for Benedict Cumberbatch and his career, it could be bad news for Sherlock fans, as it seems that Benedict is getting too big for the hit television series. Even Steven Moffat recently admitted that they will only be able to continue doing Sherlock until Cumberbatch gets too big for the show.
With Benedict Cumberbatch now being one of the most sought after actors on the face of the planet, it would not be surprising if we do not get much more of Sherlock before he decides to focus on his movie career. The only plus factor that Sherlock has on its side, is that they are very short seasons, although this still might not be enough to save it.
Do you think Benedict Cumberbatch has grown too big for Sherlock?
