Devon Aoki is one of the children of the founder of the Benihana restaurant chain, Hiroaki 'Rocky' Aoki who is involved in a fight with their stepmom, Keiko over the reported $50 million inheritance left to the children. The money in the inheritance is under the control of the stepmom Keiko until the children reach 45 years of age at which time they get access to the money.
The actress who appeared in the film "2 Fast 2 Furious" and her siblings filed a lawsuit recently claiming that their stepmom is wasting money on ill-advised gimmicks such as the Beni Girls, a hip-hip dance duo that performs in restaurants (Daily Mail - November 25).
While her being part of this lawsuit is interesting media fodder the involvement of Devon Aoki brings attention to her film and modelling career which has been very 'quiet' over the past couple years and recently took a strange turn.
In August 2014 she was scheduled to be part of the hit television show "Arrow" in which she was going to play the role of the DC Comics heroine Katana. However, just before filming was about to take place she was replaced by Rila Fukushima because of a scheduling conflict. There has been no mention of the 'replacement' project or the project which reportedly created the conflict and I wonder if the attractive actress/model has put so much time into this conflict with her stepmom over her father's inheritance that it is taking away from her own career.
Not since 2007 with her role in the movie "War" has she been a memorable presence on the big screen and her passing on the role of Katana in "Arrow" and now the news about her involvement in the fight over her father's fortune makes me wonder about her career focus.
Devon Aoki is a talented, attractive performer but for her to remain a 'desired' actor she must 'work'. An opportunity to be in the spotlight was missed when she passed on being in "Arrow" and one can only hope it was not due to the fight over her father's fortune because that looks like a fight that is not going to end for many years.
