At a time when there seems to be quite a big race row going on in Hollywood, with the lack of ethnicity in the Oscar nominations for the Academy Awards this year, it is interesting to see that a black actor has landed the role of a legendary character, who has always been white in the previous tales of his adventures. A new Robin Hood movie is coming our way and, while the main character will remain white, his biggest sidekick is going under a bit of a change.

In the history of the Robin Hood tales, the character Little John has always been portrayed by a white actor but, for the new movie Robin Hood: Origins, we are going to see the role being played by a black star. Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx has given us some fantastic performances over the years and we have no doubt that he is going to blow us away once again, this time as Little John.
As is always that case with these brave casting choices, there are those who feel that the character should be played by a white actor, since the history of the character has always been white. However, in an age where we are trying to kick racism out of society, color should not come into it and the fact that Jamie Foxx is one of the best actors in the business should be all that matters.

Anyway, that is enough about race, let's get back to the movie. As well as seeing Jamie Foxx in the role of Little John, Robin Hood: Origins is also going to see Taron Egerton playing the legendary character Robin Hood, which actress Eve Hewson will take on the role of his love interest Maid Marion. Robin Hood: Origins will be directed by Otta Bathurst, based on the script from Joby Harold, with a 2017 release date being aimed for.
