Despite the fact that we have been seeing some positive changes in Hollywood in recent years, with a number of women finally beginning to land the big and exciting roles that they deserve, there is still a lot of sexual discrimination in Hollywood and there are still not enough big roles for women. There have been plenty of stars who have been vocal about the sexual discrimination in Hollywood, stating that there needs to be some big changes and soon.
Entertainment superstar Jennifer Lopez has been working in the business for many years, in all areas of the business, and the talented star has been fortunate enough to land some pretty big roles during the acting side of her career. However, Jennifer has also noticed that there have not been enough big roles for women in Hollywood and has urged movie makers to write much more exciting roles for actresses.
Lopez explained, "['Selena'] was a meaty role, but it was few and far between, especially for Latinos to have a role like that. I think it's still challenging for women, especially being Latina. Thinking about 'Selena' 20 years ago and to have a role like that, I was very lucky. I was very fortunate. But it's still a struggle for women. It's pretty amazing what it's grown into. I don't take it for granted. I'm very fortunate. I think [the industry] is still moving and growing, and it's always a challenge for women."
She added, "At this point, you have to create your own opportunities and I think that's why I got so much more into producing and taking into our own hands as an artist. I think it's the second phase of your career -- you kind of make a name for yourself and show everybody what you do and where your talents lay, and then you have to take it into your own hands and be the artist that you want to be."
As well as being attached to a number of new movie projects in the near future, fans of Jennifer Lopez can see her playing the role of Harlee Santos in the television series Shades of Blue.
