While Warner Bros. and DC are still struggling to live up to what Marvel have been doing with their cinematic universe, it is still probably fair to say that they have one of the greatest comic book characters of all time, with Batman. Before trying to make their own extended universe, Christopher Nolan gave us his Batman trilogy, which was very well received and impressed fans and critics alike.
At the end of the third instalment, we see actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays the role of Detective John Blake, entering the Batcave and seemingly looking set to take over the mantle of Batman. This led to many fans calling for the actor to get his own Batman movie, which never materialised, and now Joseph has opened up about the project, admitting that he felt it ended in the perfect way.
Gordon-Levitt told Cinema Blend, "I know we're all used to the sort of Marvel movies, which are just kind of endless series. They don't really have a beginning, middle, and end. But I think Nolan very much thought of that movie as a conclusion, and there's a theme that runs through all three of those movies that begins in the first movie, runs through the second movie and it concludes in that moment where he says that Batman is more than a man, Batman is a symbol. And so to have another man other than Bruce Wayne kind of becoming Batman at the end of that trilogy, I think that's the perfect ending to that story."
It will be interesting to see what Warner Bros. and DC can do with their new Batman standalone movie, which fans are eagerly anticipating. Ben Affleck gave a very solid performance as Bruce Wayne aka Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so we could well get a solid new Batman film.
