The Avengers director Joss Whedon has revealed how he came to helm, what is expected to be, the biggest and best Marvel movie to date. Joss claims that he had no idea that he was being courted for the job and just thought he was helping out.

Whedon explained, “It unfolded slowly for me but I think that might just be because I’m slow. I’ve been circling around with Marvel for a long time. It felt to me like it was a favour which I sometimes do; I read the script, give my opinion.”
He added, “I said [in regards to the early Zak Penn script draft for The Avengers] well, this doesn’t work, but if I was going to do an Avengers movie, here’s what I’d do. Then gradually we started meeting again and I was like, is this a job interview? What’s happening here?”

Joss continued, “I suddenly started thinking the more I was thinking about it the more I wanted to do it, and this was a courtship process the entire time and I was just a little thick.”
The Avengers is set to be released in the UK on April 27 and in the US on May 4.
