When it was announced that a reboot of the Judge Dredd movie was being made, titled Dredd 3D, it was met with a very mixed response. This mixed reaction then translated onto the box office, when the movie was released, as Dredd 3D only managed to gross $13.4m inthe US.

Karl Urban as Dredd
However, Dredd found an audience overseas and, since being released on DVD and Blu-ray, has found quite a good following. While it was thought that a Dredd 2 movie would not happen, actor Karl Urban, who played the lead role, insists that the fans have the power to make Dredd 2 a reality.
Urban said, "It's certainly my hope that we get to make more … clearly it has found an audience. I think the more people that campaign for it, the more people that email, Twitter and write into Lionsgate and say 'We want to see more of this', then the more likelihood is that we'll get to see that. We certainly are doing everything we can to ensure that happens."

Scene from Dredd
Following the claims that a decision on a Dredd sequel would be dependant on DVD and Blu-ray sales, Amazon saw a huge spike in Dredd sales. Dredd shot to the top spot at Amazon.co.uk, while it also moved from 260th spot, up to 30th spot on Amazon.com.
