Music superstar Katy Perry is one of those stars who likes to use her fame to help others and she recently took a trip to a small village in Vietnam, where she got to meet a family who lack the basics that we take for granted on a daily basis. Katy has now opened up about her trip and has spoken about some of her experiences there, while also taking the time to praise the work that has been done there by the people at Unicef.
Perry explained, "It was heartbreaking to meet a grandmother who was left to care for four grandchildren after her daughter passed away. The family lives off a bumpy path in a remote village in the hills, and one of the grandchildren, a five-year-old named Linh, became severely malnourished. If a Unicef-trained outreach worker had not come to the village, and made sure Linh got the care she needed, she might not be alive today."
She added, "Linh is one of millions of children who face such challenges every day. That's something we should all be worried about. All the children I met have incredible dreams. We have to help them fight for those dreams. Investing in the most disadvantaged to give them a fair chance in life is not only the right thing to do, it is the best way to break the cycle of poverty and drastically improve children's health, education and well-being."
It is always nice to see some of the biggest stars on the face of the planet doing what they can in order to raise awareness of such issues and we hope that more can follow on from Katy Perry and help with what the good people over at Unicef are trying to do.
