When it was announced that Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond would not be returning for the new season of Top Gear, it was obvious that the BBC were going to struggle to keep the show as popular as it was. So it was no surprise that Chris Evans, Matt LeBlanc and co. were heavily criticised for the last season of Top Gear, which resulted in Chris resigning from the show and the BBC deciding to get back to a familiar format.
When it was announced that Chris Evans had decided to quit Top Gear, it did not take long for the rumours to start, suggesting that Matt LeBlanc and Chris did not get along, which led to Evans deciding to quit. With the new season of Top Gear just around the corner, Matt has been talking about what happened, insisting that he had absolutely nothing to do with it.
LeBlanc explained, "I did not know that was coming. I read it in the paper. I did not know that that was coming. He went and he resigned. I read in the paper that I forced him out and that’s not true. I didn’t have anything to do with it. He’s got a lot on his plate, so whatever his reasons were… he said in his statements, it was all pretty clear. That was that."
He added, "I haven’t heard from him since – which is his choice. I saw the stories that we weren’t getting along and there was a row between us, but we were fine. I liked Chris Evans. I think my schedule is tough, but he was doing a radio show every morning, and that was a lot to deal with."
The new season of Top Gear will hit television screens on March 5.
