After the weeks and months of build up for the 2014 Oscars, they have finally arrived and we have been watching with anticipation as each of the awards come and go. The latest award to be announced is the Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar and, following all of the predictions and suggestions of who could, would and should win, the winner has just been announced.

Matthew McConaughey was favourite
It is fair to say that the Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar was one of the most difficult to choose at this year's Academy Awards and possibly one of the tightest categories there has ever been. All five of the actors nominated for the award were more than worthy of being crowned the winner of the Oscar, with all five putting in fantastic performances, but there can only be one.
It has just been announced that Matthew McConaughey has won the Oscar for the Best Actor in a Leading Role, for his wonderful performance in the movie Dallas Buyers Club. Matthew fought off stiff competition from the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio for The Wolf of Wall Street, Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers Club, Christian Bale for American Hustle, Bruce Dern for Nebraska and Chiwetel Ejiofor for 12 Years a Slave.

Matthew McConaughey won the award
During his winners speech, Matthew McConaughey thanked the Academy, the other nominees, the director of Dallas Buyers Club, his co-stars and then spoke about the three things he needs everyday; Someone to look up (thanking God), something to look forward to (thanking his family) and someone to chase (thanking his hero, who he claims is him in the future, someone to chase). Finally he said what we all had been waiting for "Alright, alright, alright."
