'Fruitvale Station' premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews, especially for its leading star, Michael B. Jordan. It ended up winning the Grand Jury Prize as well as the US Audience Award at the festival. The Weinstein company acquired the film, which pretty much guarantees a strong awards season run for the film and its stars.

Ahna O'Reilly and Octavia Spencer at Sundance for 'Fruitvale'
Now, the first trailer for the film has been released and it seems ever bit as harrowing and emotional as the reviews stated. The film is based on the true story of the real-life shooting of Oscar Grant in San Francisco.
The film is scheduled to premiere at the Cannes Film festival later this month, but don't expect it to release in theaters until July 26th, 2013 when it goes into limited release. Considering Weinstein's usual awards strategy, expect word of mouth to slowly built and the film to get a slow rollout in theaters followed by an extensive awards season campaign.
