Michael Palin was asked to play God in the stage production, Spamalot, at the Playhouse Theatre in the West End of London in August this year. Spamalot was written by Eric Idle of the Monty Python team and is the hilarious spoof of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. The name was taken from a line in the film 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail', 'we eat ham, and jam and Spam a lot.'

Michael Palin is a legend
The play was originally produced on Broadway in 2005 and won three Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical of the 2004–2005 season. The first national American tour lasted from 2006 to 2009 and was a huge success, with a run of over 1,500 performances. The second tour ran from 2010 to 2011.
Michael Palin commented that the Python team were absolutely delighted with the success the musical was achieving and that it took them all by surprise, including Eric Idle. The London performance opened in 2006 and will continue until February 2014. There has been a British tour and audiences from Nottingham to Southampton have been rolling in the aisles at the fantastic comedy show.

Eric Idle is another genius
Throughout this Summer, Celebrity Actors had been invited to act the role of God for a week at a time. Michael Palin took over the job and donated his fee to his favourite charity, to help children who stammer. Other celebrities who have played God are the Python Legend, Eric Idle and Larry lamb, Bradley Walsh, Simon Callow, Christopher Biggins, Hugh Bonneville, and even Barbara Windsor. They have all donated their fees to charities.
