When it was announced that Peter Capaldi was standing down as Doctor Who, the fans were quick to start throwing some names out there for who they would like to see taking over the role of the Doctor, but nobody could really have expected what was to come, with the showrunners deciding to take a big gamble with their new choice.

As you must all be well aware by now, actress Jodie Whittaker has been cast in the role of the new Doctor in Doctor Who, a casting decision which seems to have the fans of the show split right down the middle. While some of the fans are delighted to see them taking the show in this direction, there are others who are not happy to see a woman being cast in the role.
One excited fan beamed, "So happy to see Doctor Who finally giving the lead role to a woman and I have no doubt that Jodie Whittaker will do an incredible job as the Doctor." Meanwhile, a less than happy fan moaned, "How can they take something so sacred and destroy it just like that? No disrespect to Jodie Whittaker but Doctor Who should be played by a man. Not happy!"

It will be interesting to see whether the casting of Jodie Whittaker in Doctor Who will have a positive or a negative effect on the viewing figures for the show. There is no denying Jodie is a very talented actress indeed but when it comes to the hardcore fans of Doctor Who, casting a woman could be something that backfires on them.
