Hollywood beauty Patricia Arquette has been in the acting industry for many years now, putting in plenty of strong performances over the years, even going on to bag herself an Oscar for her role in the hit movie Boyhood. However, there are plenty of women in Hollywood who have been fighting for equal rights in the industry, with Patricia being among those voicing their concerns.
There have been a number of complaints about the fact that women are paid less than men in Hollywood, which Patricia Arquette adressed during her Oscar victory speech. Now, Patricia has spoken about the gender inequality once again, this time admitting that it stretches further than just equal pay, with women not being given the same opportunities as men in Hollywood.
Arquette explained, "Those kind of arguments are at best very paleolithic. You can’t talk caveman to me. That’s always the convenient argument that people have made throughout times on how to oppress other people – that their value is less, that they don’t have a story to tell, that they don’t have the skills, that they aren’t smart enough."
She then went on to add, "I think that’s not a valid argument at all. When women are not given the opportunity to do something, you can’t judge the value of what they contributed. You can’t say that their time hasn’t come or that they are not prepared for that."
Women have been fighting for equal rights for many years now and it seems that Hollywood might finally have to stand up and take notice, although it could take longer than people would like. Watch this space!
