Hollywood has become full of Australian stars over the years, with a number of them proving that they have what it takes to mix it with the best in the business, taking on some interesting roles in some impressive movies. Following the huge success of the movie Avatar, which has become the biggest grossing movie of all-time taking a staggering $2.78bn, actor Sam Worthington became a household name all over the world.

Sam Worthington stars in Avatar
While Sam Worthington has enjoyed success and joy in his acting career, his personal life has seen his family go through some tough time, facing a number of illnesses over the years. While his father suffers from diabetes and heart problems, his mother has had to battle ovarian cancer, which she has now managed to overcome. Sam has now opened up about the health issues that his family have faced, revealing how they have affected him.
Worthington told Australia's GQ, "Mum's cancer battle struck at the heart of life and death for me. She said, 'I'm not going to let this disease control how I live'. I might not have agreed with the way Mum chose to handle her treatment at the time, but she taught me that the best way to help her was to stop being all 'woe is me', so we did, and everyone in our family got stronger by staying positive together. When I was young my parents were these titanic, infallible figures. But Mum's illness, and Dad's battles with diabetes and heart attacks had a ripple effect on me - reminding me of my own mortality and that these illnesses are genetic."
